Habitat:
- Lives in low quality freshwater environments
- Can tolerate brackish water
Description:
- Blueish white colour with black eyes.
- 4-7mm long
- Distinctive upright walking style
Origin and Distribution:
- Native to USA and Canada
- Currently distributed across Northern Ireland and Great Britian as well as other European countries
Impacts:
- Can displace native species degrading the water quality however co-existence also possible

Prevent Spread
- Care must be taken when removing garden pond water and plants to ensure there are no invasive species
- Do not release invasive species into waterbodies or move them between waterbodies
- Report all sightings
- Great care must be taken to ensure individuals kept in confinement do not escape
Current Legislation Position (Northern Ireland only):
- Crangonyx pseudogracilis is listed in Schedule 9 of the Wildlife (Northern Ireland) Order 1985 and as such, under Article 15 it is an offence to release or allow this species to escape into the wild.
