MulkearLIFE – Training Workshop on Invasive Weeds – Sat. 26 Feb 2011

As part of the ongoing work programme to control and remove invasive weeds in the Mulkear Catchment, MulkearLIFE (www.mulkearlife.com) is hosting a free community based workshop on Saturday 26th February 2011

The workshop will take place from 09.45am to 14.00 hrs in Newport Community Centre, Newport, Co. Tipperary and is entitled ‘Dealing With Invasive Weeds in the Mulkear Catchment’.

The training workshop, which will include a field trip, is designed to be interactive and the workshop will focus on how community groups and local individuals can undertake work to address the considerable problem of invasives weeds. While the workshop will review the three main problem weeds found in the Mulkear Catchment – Lower Shannon Special Area of Conservation, namely Giant Hogweed, Japanese Knotweed and Himalayan Balsam, the primary focus will be on community efforts to control and manually remove Himalayan Balsam and how this can be coordinated and supported by MulkearLIFE and the Mulkear Conservation Volunteers.

The workshop is free and teas/coffees & lunch will be provided by MulkearLIFE but workshop participants must book and register in advance. Numbers will be limited and bookings will be taken on a first come first booked basis.
